Why me?
Hey guys. I have staggered 19" AXIS "Shine" wheels with Toyo Proxes-R tires on my '06 GT. Long story short. Both wheels on the right side have bad curb rash. Well,...to me it's bad. I'd say at least 1/2 of each wheel has curb rash. What do you guys recommend? I know my options are either just buying two new wheels orgetting them fixed by a pro. I want to try and do it myself because I have the tools. If I don't do it myself, do you guys know where I can buy wheels individually for a good price?
If your wheels are chrome, you are SOL, I'm afraid. If your wheels are just polished (probably are, or you wouldn't even ask), it would depend on how deep the scars. Filing or grinding away at edge and you will start to mess with the integrity and that's a bad thing.
In your place, I would buy replacements as getting them repaired with shipping to/from would be prohibitably expense I would think.
PS: Congrats on your Tomo (
, check your sig) R888's. I am running a set and love them so far. Do you hear what sounds like an airplane motor from them on certain types of road surfaces?

That sounds pretty bad if it's half the wheel. I'm a certified and professionally trained wheel repair tech (and a mustang owner). Like Jazzer said sol if they're chrome. I don't know how the lip is on that wheel but if it's not crazy deep you may be able to grind some of it out without damiging the integrity. I'd have to see the wheel because there are some types of damage that it's just not worth it. If it did come out with the grinding there are some other steps involved that you may not have the tools or chemicals handy to finish the job and keep a pprotective coating on the wheels. You should see if there is a mobile guy in your area that's willing to work with retail customers.
