Default NEED A RESPONSE QUICK!

i have to make a quick decision (w/in a few hours) of what tires i should get i need 245 40 18s, and the dude at firestone said the cheapest ones would be Sonar... he literally told me don't get them b/c they would be money wasted b/c they make a lot of noise when you drive... is this true? or do u guys think he's just pulling my leg so he can make some money, anyone had any experiences with these tires? please let me know pleaaseeeee

I think going cheap on tires is a bad idea. The tires are the single most important component in keeping your car on the road next to the driver. I have never heard of Sonar, but noise alone would not drive me away from tires. Heck, my tires are quite loud, but have phenomenal traction.

What is your budget?

not really a budget, i just dont want to spend unnecessary money, I was told the falken tires would be 130 a piece, and the Sonar 100 a peice... i'm debating on which one to go with, what kind of noise do your tires make? i really don't like the idea of having noise as i drive

Noise is a relative issue. I don't know how to "guage" the level, but the first time I heard it, I actually looked up in the sky for a single engine plane as that is what the R888's sound like . It wasn't that loud really, but it will grab your ear if window is down.
Here are a couple options I just found:

I like the HTR III's better, but cost a little more.

Get Eagle F1 all season tires or Nitto 555's

I know, I'm probably late on this. But tirerack.com you can get teh nitto's for like 130-140 and the Eagle F1's for 151 apiece.

And that's for 275/40/17

Default sonar tires

I have seen the Sonar brand before, but it was about a year ago. If you do not know much about them I would avoid them. If you want to go with an inexpensive brand try Nexen or Wanli.
The less expensive tires do not have as good of a rubber compound and sometimes do not perform as well in the long run, but we all have budgets.

I think I have come across Sonar's once in my 17 years of being in the tire business. Stay away from the no names.
