Tires are getting smaller as in you are spinning wheels and getting to the end of tread life?

Why do you want to go narrower tires? What size wheel are you currently running? What tire are you currently running? What is your budget? What type of driving do you normally do?

Why is the sky blue?

285's will fit fine, although still don't know the rim width. I cannot compare what kind of performance difference you will get as we don't know which Toyo you have and which Michelin you propose.
