Default Profile Question

First of all I have 17x8 Aluminum Alloy wheels all around. I want to get 275/40 Nitto 555's on the rear and go cheap on the front and keep them 245 for cost reasons. My problem is the only place I can find 245/40-17's below 90 bucks a tire is TireRack and they are listing that they have only one Sumi HTR Z left at those specs.

So....Is it ok for looks/drivability to put 275/40s on the back and 245/45's on the front? Cuz I can find plenty of great deals on 245/45's but not 245/40s. If anybody knows a place to find 245/40's for less than 90-100 bucks a tire that arent complete crap quality please let me know. From my understanding my stock suspension has a slight rake. Given this....the slightly smaller profile on the back would only counter that rake as opposed to make the car look retarded. But i'm not sure....is it ok?

In the end I guess my only option if you have to match profiles is to grab 255/40s for the front. Will just have to cost 20-40 more bucks.

A couple things to consider here

A 275 is too large for a proper fit on an 8" wheel. It will fit and many do/have done it, but really should be on a 9" wheel, minimum. An over-sized tire creates some stress on the sidewalls and can lead to poor wear. It also tends to make your ride a bit more "sloppy" in the corners due to sidewall flex. I think you should save your money for a wider set of wheels and install a tire with a better fit, IMO.

I would next ask what kind of driving you do and your HP numbers. I am not such a fan of different tires on front/rear and think tires are the LAST thing one should look to save money. I do think it is a good idea to keep profies as close as possible as this will avoid any ABS sensor issues due to differing diameter tires.

I do agree that i'll be pushing it with the 275's on the 8 inch wheels. I'm not being entirely cheap from what I understand sumis are decent quality for their price and they will only be on the front. But the reason i'm wanting as wide of tires as possible on the rear is because I will be putting a 2.1L KB I/C blower on around the end of the year. However I do not go to the track, this is a strictly street car.

At the moment I only have cat-backs, a tune and a K&N Filter. So basically stock numbers.
But i'm thinking in the future and since i'll be blown why not get the right tires now. My only choice left would be to drop down to a 255/40 on the rear. With a blower how practical would Nitto 555 255/40-17s be? Like I said I never go to the track so I dont need to be able to launch from a DIG with breakneck speed....something I rarely do anyways. I live in the south so I do enjoy going out on two-lane back roads and doing 60-70 around tight corners. But other than that I have an auto with the stock torque converter so I dont do major launches or anything. Once again...given this how good will 255/40 Nitto 555's hold up under around 360-400 horses at the wheels? Also.....would slightly under-inflated 275/40s really bulge and compromise my tire on an 8 inch wheel? If so i'm definitely not willing to go 275, i'll just have to suffice. Can anyone who has done this chime in?
