Default Summer Tires

Max Performance Summer style. 255/35-18 (front) 275/40-18 (rear) I also want the least amount of hydroplaning possible. What is the best kind?

So you want these tires to work best in Summer, but capable of good in the wet?

If so, you can look at Car & Driver for some info in a recient tire review. Of the tires tested, I currently run the PS2 on my Winter wheels and had the F1 GS-D3's previously. I found the PS2's to be FAR superior in the dry, as I don't push my car in the wet.

If you want VERY high-performance dry ONLY tire, look into an "R" compound and stay away from puddles.

Since hydroplaning is your concern, I would suggest the michelin pilot sport PS2, bridgestone RE050 A pole position and yokohama advan sport.

Goodyear does not currently make a matching max performance tire in the sizes you mentioned.

A few questions. First, why don't you sell Nittos I've heard they are really good. Third, your response for my previous question if I said the Ultra High Performance category. Fourth, my previous question with the Extreme performance category (I know they have liek no hydroplaning resistance, I'm just asking for the least). Third, in the Max Performance category what would be like the next tires down after the three types you gave me (they are a little too high on my price range and I'm willing to sacrifice some wet traction for price). Lastly, the best winter tires where all the tires are 255/45-18 or 255/40-18, I'm talking maximum snow traction and ice as best as possible. You can just number your responses, sorry theres so many questions.

I do not know the specific reason why we don't currently sell Nittos

In the ultra high performance category, I would suggest the yokohama S drive or general exclaim UHP

In extreme performance, I would suggest the bridgestone potenza RE-11

If you follow this link, LINK you can view all of the survey results we have for the various performance categories.

In both sizes for winter I would suggest the dunlop winter sport 3D.

Good thread and timely as I'm getting ready to replace the stock rubber on my 2006 GT 18's. I am looking at the Pilot PS2's but I want to know if I should consider changing the size or sticking with the stock 235/50. It's not a DD but sometimes will drive it for a week at a time. Always spirited driving, of course. Any advice?

Going to a wider tire like 255/45-18 will give you better handling. The PS2 isn't made in that size but the goodyear F1 asymmetric, sumitomo HTR ZIII, continental sport contact 3 or hankook ventus V12 would be good options.

Cool. Is the 45 a lower profile tire vs. the 50 and will show more "room" in the wheel-well? I do not plan on lowering and don't want it to look weird.
