stagger question
hey everyone. stagger question.... could i run my stock fronts which are 18x8.5's with 235/50/18's on them and have rears with 18x10's and 285/50/18's on them..... is the 235-285 spread to much and could drive wrong? thanx for any input. im basically being cheap and want to just change my rear's haha
There is nothing wrong with such a stagger, but will just impose a bit more understeer on your Mustang. The Stang is already a bit more prone to "push" into a corner due to the somewhat heavy front end.
Go ahead with your plans, just keep in mind you may consider a heavier rear sway bar at some point.

Hi,
On the staggared setup, you may want to look at something other than a 50 series in the back. The 235/50 is not near as tall as the 285/50. The 285/50 will throw off the speedo some also.
As Jazzer stated, it may give you a little more of the tail wagging the dog feel.

I generally recommend a lower profile tire, such as the 40< series for performance car for the street. You will get a bit of a rougher ride going lower profile than current and will increase as the tires get stickyer and more expensive. You will very likely have some speedometer accuracy issues changing profile hights, unless you are VERY specific about new wheels and the rear tires you choose. The speedo is an easy fix via hand-held tuner, so pick the wheels you like and go from there.
Oh.... if you go smaller overall tire diameter, you will effectively lower the gearing a bit on your ride and be a bit quicker off the line. I would not expect a lot, but you may notice a bit.

PS... purdy ride
