Mounting tires on chrome wheels. Tips??
I know how to mount a tire, just unsure of how to mount a low profile tire. (245/45) I'm gonna mount 2 of them tomorrow on my chrome Saleen wheels. What tips can you give me as to putting them out WITH OUT scratching the wheels, or very little tiny scratches. They're 2" valve stems right? Thanks in advance guys.
Oh and by the way, please don't say "take them to have someone do it for you". Prices here are ridiculous. It's about $25+ a tire to mount if you didn't buy the tires from the place you take them to.

So do you have a tire mounting machine or do you just use semi-specialized tools and a work bench?
I would not really consider a 45 series tire as low profile, but is certainly going to be more difficult than a 50+ series (widths being the same or wider). I have always had my tires mounted and if you scratch/scar a wheel, you will likey regret not spending the $100 not going to a shoppe.

Using a newer machine, with a plastic head on it for one.
2, Our machine where I USE to work had plastic shells you could put on the steel clamps.
Lots of lube baby! And an extra set of hands will help.
I dont even like doing my 285/40's. I made the general service kid at work do it, whos a pro at it, but I still made him nervous watching him, lol.
Mine are reverse mount, which makes it even harder.
Going on is easier than taking off I will say that much.
Now try doing a run flat tire with a rock solid sidewall!

The fact that they charge $15/tire more just because you didn't buy them there isn't cool. If the tires around here weren't $20+ more a tire than online, then well I'd go there and buy them. Saving money is saving money. I know they need to make money, but come on.
Ya no kidding, aint gonna happen.
