Default Few questions

Hey guys, few things...

First off, I have the polished aluminum 18" bullitts as seen in my sig, and wanted to know if there's any good products/methods to clean them up and make them shine. Once it gets warmer I'm going to do a full detail and want them to look good

Secondly, I'm going to be in the market for new tires soon and have done some research, but am not 100% sure on all of it. I'm pretty sure the dimensions on my wheels are 18x8.5 (correct me if I'm wrong) so it looks like 255 is the widest I could go. That being said, I'm looking at going 255/45/18 all around and was looking at some tires on AM, specifically the Nitto nt555s and these: http://www.americanmuscle.com/sumito...255-45-18.html

Are the Nittos worth the extra $$? I don't need any crazy sticky tire, but something good for the streets for a DD application. Any recommendations would be great

Thanks in advance

I do believe you may be rolling on 8.5", but not sure. What size tires are you running and can you give me a pic looking down the length of the car so I can see the relative bulge of tire beyond the lip of wheels? This, combined with tire info (all thee numbers please) will help me to figure out what you are runing in terms of wheel width.

The brakes are ONLY as good as the tires and the Sumi's linked are not gonna help you take advantage of them. I would MUCH rather see you go with the Nitto's, of the two choices give, but would rather see you go beyond those as well. You have invested some good $$$ in upgrades, so don't avoid the same path in going for tires. They are the #1 item, beyond the driver, maintaining control of your car.

Do you like to take nice turns a bit faster than the next guy?
Do you like to get off the line a bit quicker than the next guy?
Do you ever see yourself doing any HPDE days in the future?

If the answer is YES to any of the above.... I would recommend you spend more money on improved grip over that of the two tires you are considering this far.

PS. I figure you have snow in PA, so do you have a second set of wheels in which to run snow tires, or do you park her for the Winter?

Default Tires

The Nitto is ok, but would not rate it any better than the General UHP. There are alot of tires out there just as good (or better) than the Nitto, Nitto just advertises a little more.

Toyo who owns Nitto is just as good, but $$$ also. I have had Summi, General, Toyo, Wanli, Nexen, Nitto, BFG.... alot of tires. Have to say I liked my Toyo and General the best.

I'll have to look into them. I've just heard a lot of good things about Nittos (specifically the 555s) and some people seem to swear by them

Do you like to get off the line a bit quicker than the next guy? Oh yeah haha
Do you ever see yourself doing any HPDE days in the future? Maybe the track for fun

I'm pretty sure my currrent BFG's are 235/50/18's. I'll have to go take a pic and check that. They're the stock tires that came on the GT's. (I bought them, along with the rims off of a '08 GT)

I wasn't all that impressed with the GT brake upgrade I did, along with the Hawk pads, so hopefully a decent set of tires will help that out. Ever since I added the 8.8 rear, I find it pretty easy to spin the tires and break them loose on a turn, so that's predominantly why I'm looking at a new set of tires.

Any recommendations besides the two I discussed? I was just poking around the AM website and they seemed to get good reviews and I've heard a lot of good things about the Nittos

We do get a decent amount of snow, but if there's any on the roads I try to avoid it like the plague. Seeing my car all salty and dirty makes me cringe

Based on your response above, you need to look beyond your original list for tires. As for brakes, to complete a proper brake upgrade, you need to replace your OEM fluid with somthing better and swap out those OEM rubber brake lines and go SS at all four corners. Peep Brakes upgrade ~ Speeding up slowing down for all the info you need on the subject.

If your car is drivin in the snow, you should get a second set of tires/wheels. There is just no tire to give you the performance you want and the ability to run in the snow You also need to decide what is a bigger priority, in terms of grip... lateral or from a dig. A cornering tire differs greatly from that of an "off-the-line" tire and both are a far cry from one that works in snow.

Can you afford a new set of wheels for your Summer/playtime tires?
