Ford Mustang 1994-2004: How to Replace Blower Motor

The blower motor in your Ford Mustang is responsible for powering the engine fan that forces air into the cabin. The blower motor is wired to the blower motor switch, which is located inside the cabin and controlled by the driver. As time goes by, the blower motor is exposed to the elements as well as normal wear and tear from being used everyday, so at some point it will give out and need to be replaced. Follow this step-by-step guide to remove and replace the blower motor in your Ford Mustang.
Materials Needed
- 8mm socket
- Ratchet wrench with extension
Step 1 – Disconnect battery
Before commencing any work, make sure to disconnect the negative (black) battery terminal to prevent any electrical issues.
Step 2 – Remove old blower motor
Locate the blower motor underneath the glove box compartment on the passenger's side, along with the three 8mm bolts that keep it in place. Then follow these steps:
- Use the 8mm socket, wrench and extension to undo the bolts.
- Unclip the blower motor wiring harness.
- Remove the blower motor from filter unit.
- Unclip the second wiring harness.
Step 3 – Install new blower motor
With the old blower motor disconnected, installing the new blower motor works in reverse order as it was removed. Follow these steps:
- Connect the wiring harnesses.
- Tighten the three 8mm bolts.
- Reconnect battery's negative terminal.
- Test the system.
