Most muscle car owners will categorically state that muscle cars are the best thing on the planet. But with their big motors, RWD, and manual transmissions, there are others that believe the cars can be improved. Even in the muscle car heyday people believed they could improve the cars, and some tried. That’s why we have the DeTomaso Pantera, or why we almost got a mid-engine Corvette. People believed they could mess with the basic DNA of a muscle car to build something cooler, and this Mach 1 definitely attempts to be something cooler.

Here we have an early ’70s Mach 1 Mustang. It still looks like a Mach 1 from that era, but the outside doesn’t properly display what’s going on under the hood, or rather under the trunk. You see, the builder of this glorious muscle car actually took the drivetrain out of a Ford GT, cut out much of the original Mustang interior, and then melded the two together to get a mid-engine Mustang that was never meant to be.

That’s right, the same 5.4L supercharged V8 from the infamous Ford GT helps propel this amazing piece of custom Mustang down the road. And this car just goes to show you, not everything has been done; this one definitely took us by surprise.
