Mustang Boss 302 Goes to Le Mans and Beats Ferrari, Again!

The 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is by all means a serious performer. It may lack some of the technical prowess and finesse of the current pony car, but that’s okay. Sometimes we like our Mustangs to be about brawn and not brains. Say it isn’t so!

Mustang Boss 302 Conquers Le Mans

A great example of such a concept is this lovely Fifth Gear video. Here we can see Vicki, one of the hosts, taking a Boss 302 near its limits at the iconic Circuit de la Sarthe. While taking a short road trip to the venue of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Vicki explores all the might and power the Mustang Boss 302 has to offer. She also cringes at the 150 miles per tank she gets on her way to the track.

Once on track, Vicki proceeds to pick off her opponents one by one, including Porsches, Lotuses, and even some Ferraris. If such footage doesn’t make you think back to the 1966 edition of the famous race, there’s probably something wrong with you.

At the end of the clip, the Mustang Boss 302 earns praise for its touring comfort, its engine, and, of course, its panache. On the other hand, Vicki says it’s certainly a handful in the corners, and not nearly as refined as a European car.

If you’ve ever wondered why Ford made so many changes to bring the Mustang into modern times, this video is the answer in a nutshell.
