painted stripes?

Vinyl side stripe on my stock GT/CS
Replaced with paint
If you're concerned about cost then go with vinyl. Paint is expensive but if you can afford it then it opens a lot of possibilities. You want shine, matte or something in between? Pinstripes, blend, ghosting, etc... Ultimately it's a budget question in my opinion as there is a significant cost difference. Paint is the way to go if you want to pay for it. I noticed dirt getting stuck at the edges of my vinyl. Of course, it rains a lot in Washington so grime finds its way into everything.
My decision was easy because I wanted an after market hood so I had to paint that anyway. While I had that done I had them replace my vinyl side stripe and do some work on the rear. The other question is what look are you going for? You going for the stock Mustang look or a custom look? Vinyl typically = stock and I have seen some that I like but the one's that stick with me are the custom jobs.

Man, it's been a couple of years but I want to say it was somewhere between $1500-$3000. Obviously, with a new fiberglass hood they had a lot of prep work to do so that added to my cost. If you take it to a quality shop they will make sure to blend your colors if it's necessary. So, in my example I had orange fenders and they were laying down orange on the outside of my hood. The two parts needed to match and they did a good job of that. I think some place like Maaco would make it apparent that the hood had been painted.
If I remember correctly I was looking at putting some rear side window louvers on and that was going to be about $300-$500 to paint them. I think the hazmat fee for cleaning up is like $50-$100 for just breaking out the paint. I'm just throwing numbers out off the top of my head though. I'm sure some other guys around here can give better details.
