Default Jd 1969 and other Chevy fans can the stock 2005 Gt compete?

Just curious and really I'm not being assholish I just want to know so I don' t embarrass myself. I've heard that we can't compete with the Z-28 however what about the camaro eight cylinder or firebird? Isn't there anything we can race besides a family car or another Mustang?

Stock vs stock they are close. They both have more cubic inches. Nobody races stock anyway.

Man I'm talking about communting back and forth to work and redlight to redlight. Nothing seriously just bragging rights.

I know this is going to stir the s*** but here goes anyway. If we are using the 4th gen F-body with the LS1 as the bench mark, sorry to say but the GT will get edged out stock to stock in a straight line. The 05 GT more comparable to the LT1 used from 93 - 97 that would be a drivers race.

Now if we through cornering into the mix, the GT would hold its own very well, I would give the advantage to the Z28 because of larger stock tires, but a good driver could run the F-body down. Put the same size and compound tires on both cars and it would be anybodys race. Remember Horsepower isn't the fastest way around a road course.

I have been a GM fan for years and have modified just about everything with tires, so I have driven 1st, 2nd, 3th, and 4th gen F-bodies, only ever have owned one camaro though [sm=smiley13.gif] I have always had A-bodies (chevelles and such). The Fox chassis Mustangs were the worst of the group except for the Mustang II. The SN197 car is one very nice car, good power with good potential (still like the LS1 better), but the chassis is far and away the best we have seen from the Factorys in decades. I'm not a big fan of the 3th and 4 th Camaro/Firebird in the chassis department, but at least GM improved that car, Ford kept the Fox chassis thing pretty much unchanged.

I pretty much agree with what Qship said. The Z28 is the 8 cyl. Camaro, the T/A and Firebird Formula are the V8's from Pontiac. A well drivin LS1 6 spd car will run around a 13.2-13.5 stock, there are definatly some slower ones out there, and driver skill will play a huge roll (speaking of rolls LS1 cars absolutly own from a roll so watch out ). Truth be told I like all domestic and even some euro brands, currently I own a 70 Cutlass, the SS in my sig, and a 03 Jetta, but I have had everthing from Audi to Saabs to Dodges and even a Puoegot (sp) a few Fords a bunch of trucks, I just like building cars, so don't think I am too biased

Throw a power adder on your 05 3v engine and you will 'more than compete'.

Lol, fox body's are one of the best platforms to build from. You just can't compete with LS1's, they're too awesome.

Sorry guys, but the Fox car was designed as an economy car and never intended to have as powerful an engine as the 5.0. Anyone who has raced the Fox car, wherther it is drag raced or road raced, knows the floor pan is way to thin and it will tear in places. Just because the aftermarket has made parts to modify a Fox car doen't mean that is the better car, it was just what Ford was selling at the time.

Face the truth the new car is way better than the last 3 chassis, actually better than just about all the Mustangs. I say that not as an owner either, I have just been around cars to know when I see a winner.
