2010 Mustang GT vs. 2010 Dodge Challenger
#61
I just wanted to post a few comments and run along.
1. Speed. The best 1/4 mile time that I've seen for a completely stock R/T is 13.4 seconds (proof and time slip available on the web). People are also recording 0-60 in under 5 seconds. If you think we're doing mid-14's, we're kewl with that just don't go betting your 401k on it. And certainly don't forget about people modding it. With two of the simplest and most common mods, a CAI and an exhaust, the Challenger picks up 30-40hp.
2. "Extra Big *** Car." Ok, we win this hands down.
3. Ride. Ok, we win this too. Remember, Chrysler was owned by Mercedes. The Challenger R/T got the Mercedes touring suspension, and you can tell. The STR8 got a tighter suspension.
::: poof :::

F'rinstance - just today I ran across a link to a new supplier of suspension components. Pedders Suspension has "Chrysler/Mopar Solutions", and is starting to get into the Mustang market at for least the S197 and Classic years. Why am I mentioning this here? The link I followed was posted in a thread on a Camaro forum that I get notified of replies to - Pedders has 2010 Camaro and other GM solutions. I might not be hearing about Pedders if I only stayed here until this time next year.
FWIW, my wife really does like the Challenger, at least what we've seen of them from a distance. Time (and a few other things) will tell if a closer look is warranted. Personally I wish that Chrysler had found a way to keep the Challenger 8" - 10" shorter between the axles and closer to 3500 lbs. I'd expect a small cost in terms of item #3 in that ride quality would probably take a hit as a result, but at least then the two cars would have been more directly comparable.
