Default Which OBD II code reader to buy?

I am thinking about buying a basic code reader, and am leaning towards the Actron CP9125 for about $60.

Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

get a tuner and CAI, enjoy the performance boost and have a code reader for free!

From what I am familiar with Actron looks like a good one and is reasonably priced. Have you checked eBay? I know I've seen many many code readers listed on there before but am unsure of the reliability of any of them. The question I would look into before buying are is does it also give you the interpretation of the troublecode? Some will only give you the code and then you will have to reference it yourself.

If all you want is a code reader, try to get one that will read your 'inspection test data' as well (mode 6 data). It can some in handy if you need to check if your car will pass OBDII emissions inspection, if required in your area.

Do a search on ELM327 as well, for devices that read codes. It depends if you want a pure standalone hand-held unit or something you can do more with, such as interfacing to a PC for datalogging and other diagnostics. There's a wealth of data available from the OBDII/CAN system on these cars
