Often a "creaking" or "squeaking" noise that you hear when applying the brakes is caused by the backing plate on the brake pads vibrating against the caliper. To fix this, remove the pads and calipers and clean off the both contact sides of the caliper including the piston surface and then clean off the backer side of the pads. With everything clean, apply a light coat of high-temp break grease to all the contact points. They also sell small 1-use packages of "anti-squeak" for brakes at most auto parts stores that will work good too.

This should take care of you problem.

BTW, your brakes are hydraulic so there are hydraulic brake lines running to your brakes and not cables. The only brake cable on modern cars is for the parking brake.

See my reply above. Whoever installed them probably put them in dry without any high-temp grease. It's a cheap and easy DIY fix.

Do you have a particular brand / product of grease that you recommend?

Just go to any NAPA, Advance Auto parts or Auto Zone and tell them you want a small container of high-temp disc brake grease / lubricant and they'll know exactly what you need. They have small one-time use packs for about $2.00 each or better yet get an 8oz. tub and you'll have enough to last for years.

Actually my buddy and I installed the rear brakes and lubbed them up pretty good. I think the sqeaking is due to being a inexpensive brand of brakes.
