Question about painting parts?
Excuse me for not being too bright but I have a question about paint. I bought a spray can of PX basecoat and a can of Clear. I bought it to paint a model.
But now I think I want to paint my Ford plenum cover and maybe fuse box. Can I use this paint or do they need to be painted with a heat resistant paint?
Thanks for the help!!!

not a heat resistant paint but I would get an adhesion promoter for sure. duplicor makes an adhesion promoter. When I painted my under-hood parts that is what I used,
1. adhesion promoter
2. primer
3. color
4. clear
after thought> The Plenum cover may need a high heat paint.

I doubt the plenum would need high heat. I painted my SB 350 purple thats right my 88 chevy 2w short box has a purple block!!. I painted it myself and I used the cheap PPG Omni automotive paint that did not require a clear and it still looks good.
The key is to keep the paint as light as possible. Only put on just enough to cover the part. Come to think of it i did not even primer it just cleaned it super well and painted.
but as far as the plastic parts I dont think they get any where near hot
Here is a pic of my under hood. It was all painted by a body shop and i know it was just automotive paint. I am not sure of the stuff your using, it might not hold up quit as while, but i would give it a shot what the hell.
