Yeah, I'm going to get a GT with an auto, which I'm sure will be against many purists' rules, but it's my car and it makes it easier for me.
BINGO!!! That is the only person you need to worry about... unless your married. No one else pays the note, puts the gas in it or pays your insurance so their opinion really doesn't matter... unless you asked for it, then it only matters to a point.

I chose a manual because I have another car I can drive if need be that is a 4-door auto.

If it helps, I just posted my review of my week-long evaluation of the 5.0 (was testing other vehicle subsystems, but driving a 5.0 nonetheless!) It was an A/T, but still pretty impressive. Full review in this thread: https://mustangforums.com/forum/6785486-post76.html

Here are my takeaways from the 6-speed auto mated to the 5.0:

1.) Substantial power off the line. Short, deep first gear. Was impressed.

2.) Power on demand when 'at speed'. Press the gas a bit more, you'll move. No real overdrive downshifting to up the RPMs.

3.) The only case where downshifting took place on the 6-speed auto was when driving with constant (light) accelerator pressure up a steep incline. You could see the RPMs start to drop as gravity did its thing, so the A/T downshifted to bump them back up. I never had a problem with downshifting when I asked for power at speed. I've had this problem with other 'non-sporty' A/T vehicles though (mash the gas and the vehicle gets louder, but really doesn't go anywhere), so I understand the concern.

Hope this helps!

I found a list of ford factories an it says the new 6 speed manual, the mt82, is made in liverpool england (NOT CHINA, THANK GOD) and has been for a while. Nothing wrong with european manufacturing.

Why doesn't ford make their own 6-speed??? I really hope that the 6 speed is not made in CHINA.

you buy what your needs at the moment dictate and what your budget can afford.

I've been down both the MT and AT roads several times. In your situation, I personally would make the wife learn to drive a stick. My wife is quite the gear banger when she wants to be. I've been in the car with her before when someone pissed her off and she did a full blown burnout...loved it .

either way you go, you'd get no flak from me. It's still a Stang

There's a lot of shifting going on, unless you turn the overdrive off.
People complain about the 6 spd auto because of that.
normally I agree with you pascal...but not here man.

I have a 2008 Expy with the 5.4 and 6 speed auto...the only gears I feel shifting is the 1-2 shift.

after that, it's like butter. and when I stomp the gas, the tranny does it's job quickly. and that is in a 6,000+ lb vehicle. my 1st gear ratio is deeper than a F-450 stickshifts 1st gear. Ford went to a seperate Tranny Control Module (TCM) that works in conjunction with the PCM. Works really good.
if those qualities are to translate to the Mustang...holy crap 1st-2nd will be a real wild ride

I'd get a 2013 5.0 GT with a manual, only because my present car would be paid off by then. Either that or if the Challenger SRT-8s came out with the 6.4 Hemi.

I love the auto but I WANT another car as well with a manual.
