Default "Navigation System" is a misleading name

I ordered it for my 2011 stang but I am noticing more and more that everyone compares the factory multimedia/nav system to the portable units. I feel that with all of the features it should not be call just Nav system for $2000.00

Unfortunately I will not have the proper maps because I am in Europe. But if I have half of the multimedia functions working I will be happy (SYNC music jukebox with 10GB storage, rear view camera on screen, DVD player, on screen temperature control, etc). Remember the SYNC system with the touch nav unit is not totally the same as the Shaker 500 style interface. It is hard drive based as well as USB and bluetooth. It also very nicely brings together all of the SYNC features and functionality of the Sirius Satellite that even the aftermarkey units will not be able to do. Its not the same system that was a dealer installed unit in the 2005-2009 models.

I will get the Sirius and Navigation with Travel Link to work if I ever move back to the states.

Anyone else agree that the name "Navigation System" is misleading?

The other thing is that unlike the aftermarket Pioneer or similar in dash navigation units the factory system will not be a sought after system by thieves. It will not easily integrate into another mustang without navigation. The center stack console is different. Also with that GPS antenna attached to the system it will be easy to find the stolen units or at least deny service/subscription. Those units have some type of identification measure. I will be glad when I can get my hands on the screen and start pushing buttons.

I think you can order Eruo maps from the company that supplies FORD with the DVD. When I was searching for ways to update my maps, I stumbled across a couple.

I agree, I feel that the Electronics package brings more to the table than a handheld unit. Yes it is 2k and yes somethings on the map are way way outdated.

My biggest concern is getting updated maps.

I like the factory nav system much better than my Garmin. Maps are bigger and the zoom feature is much easier to use.

If you happen to find the company again please let me know. I plan to take delivery in July. When I Google for compatible maps, it seems now to be so many downloads, suppliers, DVDs, etc but I am not sure which one works. Also how are hard drive based nav systems updated? Via DVD or dealer only updates? I want to retain Travel Link and Sirius for when I return to the USA.

Touch screen SYNC with Juke Box, reverse camera, DVD player, temperature controls, and voice commands will hold me over when I show off the tech toys.
