Dead miss on cold start

Dead miss on cold start
Now that it's around freezing outside... about 1 in 3 overnight starts, there's a dead miss.. feels like multiple cylinders... Hold it to the floor and it'll only hit 3,000 rpm and puke massive amounts of black smoke out the back...
About 10 seconds later, all cleared up.. all hitting fine.. (either if just nursing it to keep it alive or blowing it out at 3 grand)...
Right at 80,000 miles... Have somewhat fresh Hot Rods installed..
So. Black smoke must indicate injectors are fine...
So.. COPs or plugs? I've got a Lisle broken spark plug remover and new (welded) Motorcraft plugs to install over the weekend (figure they're needed anyway).
Any other ideas?

They're welded and were $7 cheaper a piece than Champions... $110 for 8 instead of $170. Ouch.
EDIT: They might NOT be welded. There's a heat affected zone on the OD, but I'm not sure it's to the electrode
