Not sure if the 6 cylinders are the same (just kidding)...
The check engine light that you are probably referring to is for the cat deletes. Most people that run longtubes end up going with an offroad (no-cats) midpipe. If your X pipe doesn't have cats then you will get a check engine code(s) because the rear O2's are either not hooked up or they are getting a reading showing that the cats are not working properly. Just like the Sargeant said... you can have the rear O2's turned off with a tuner. If your mid-pipe has cats, then most likely you will get no codes. If you are putting on longtubes, i'm assuming you are getting a new tune done anyhow, so just make sure the rear O2's are off and you're good to go.
