Saving memories--battery disconnected

Saving memories--battery disconnected
For some years the "trick" to saving your car's memories while you changed a battery was to hook a small 9V battery, with an appropriate plug, into a power port on the car. Now I am seeing ads for a cord with a connector to the OBD II port on one end and a port plug on the other end that you connect to a source of 12V outside the car, such as from the accessory socket found on a lot of jump starters.
Does this save all the memories?
I just don't know enough about the OBD II port, and wonder if it saves things such as the radio presets. I don't know whether or not 12V connected to the OBD II port would furnish power to all the memories.
Thanks for any input you may have.
