Default Rear defrost not working

Got a new '14 GT and love it! We had some snow yesterday and it covered my back window. On my way home, 20 miles, and the snow did not melt. I know it cycled for approx. 15 minutes then off. This morning, a little more snow. I drove to work and turned on the defroster. 15 min later, it's off. Still can't see out the back. Did another cycle. Still there. I see where it may have partially turned on, but sure never got hot enough to do a thing.

Being only 2 weeks old and only 1 person has sat in the back it's not likely the elements are broken. Is there a thermostat involved with this unit? I'm calling the dealer today to get it in, because it's not right.

thoughts?

No, it's not right. Dealer should be able to fix it.

It goes to the dealer on Tuesday. Means someone else in my drivers seat!

Quick update. I turned on the rear defroster this morning since there was a bit of fog/frost. After a few minutes, I could see where the lines were clear. It still won't melt anything, but did clear the fog. Do I have a problem? Is it possible that they are partially working but not to full capacity? I thought these heating wires were either on or off.

Are you trying to clear snow from the window using your defroster? If so, it isn't designed or intended to clear an inch or more of snow - that is what you use your snow brush for.

I agree, but still felt some should melt. I've owned a lot of vehicles in my life (46) and have never had one that couldn't melt a little layer of snow. Maybe an 1/8"

Hi jester0618,

Welcome to the forum! My name is Deysha with Ford Service, and I agree with you bringing it in to your dealer for diagnosis. Also, let me get this escalated to the customer service manager for your area. Please PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number.
