I would say go with vinyl. its always reversible. Paint it a little too final for me. If you ever want to change the look...or sell the car to someone that doesn't like stripes its an easy change. I have vinyl stripes and they hold up with no problems at all.
I have a 2011 dark blue mustang gt. i wanted to put racing stripes on it and am not sure what color. either white, black or gray. anyone have any pictures of this color with racing stripes that i can make my opinion on? also what do you guys think about vinyl stripes and do they last?
Is it the deep impact blue (DIB)? If you head over to the Mustang Customizer on Ford's site, you can get a good feel for how the different stripe options and colors work on DIB.
For example, I'm between white and black at the moment, but leaning toward black.
Also I've had vinyl stripes on my last mustang (in sig) for almost 9 years. It had a few chips, but never peeled.

I have the kona blue with the white wide center stripe (23 inches) and pin stripping on the sides, in the climate here the vinyl is not holding up (2 years and peeling and cracking). White looks awesome on the blue, but ASAP I am going to paint on the brightest silver I can find instead.
