Default C&L intake - not so cold

Be aware that just because C&L says it's a Cold Air intake doesn't make it true. I recently added one, and the air intake temperature as measured by my DiabloSports Trinity is substantially Higher than it ever was with the stock airbox. The shroud around the filter element must completely seal the element or the heat created by the engine raises the intake air temperature. I have not seen any CAI that has a decent shroud. I will be fabricating a few extra, small panels over the weekend in an attempt to actually seal the element chamber so that the nice straight tube from the MAF can actually suck in Cold air through the existing air feeder tube.

On my way home today, the outside are temp was 75. My new C&L "cold" air intake allowed enough engine heat into the mix to read an intake temperature of 130. Time to contact AM for a swap to an Airaid or simply go back to the original airbox.

The higher volume of air, and more efficient flow of the air entering the engine is responsible for the extra horsepower an intake gives you. if your intake temp was 100 degrees you might see an extra 2hp. Temp is not a huge deal at this level.

Being that I come from a turbo backround, I see 130 and think thats pretty good, lol.

I have a BBK and the shroud seems to fit very well and it even came with extra insulation to go over the shroud. Havent measured any temps though

What was the temps before the CAI, on my 2013 it has a temperature gauge and mine before was running 1-2 below ambient with the stock box and 2-3 below ambient with the Airaid.

The aftermarket "cold air" intakes are a sham. Your car came with a true cold air intake that is more than sufficient.

The Steeda CAI works great, adds a larger tube to flow more air, and retains the intake under the filter box to the front of the engine.

It does require a tune since the tube where the MAF is larger, might mean is does get a few more CFM to the motor.
As for the CAI on my car, it is not a performance mod, it is more for appearance and sound

I called american muscle when I got my CAI and they told me it did not require a tune and they would not write me a new one. Which one is it ?
