Default Exterior Dimensions of 3.7?

Anyone know where I can find the exterior dimension of the 3.7, fully dressed? Or at least with in long-block form? Long story short Im trying to figure out if a 3.7 drive train can be mounted into a maverick with out sheet metal modification. An old-school 302 fits rather snugly but Im not sure which of the two is bigger externally. Any help is appreciated.

I can give you rough measurements, mine is about 23" W, 23" long including pulleys but not the bell housing. Top to bottom included the intake and oil pan is about 29".

You could make quite a sleeper with this in a Maverick! Btw, they weigh about 330 lbs.

My buddy did an LS1 swap into a Maverick. Issues that came up were the firewall interfering with the distributor on top of motor and oil pan clearance. The transmission tunnel and firewall had to be modified as well. Those dimensions are actually narrower than the 302 and the sbc, so it should fit with a little massaging, no problem. That would be a pretty sick setup on a Maverick, especially procharged! Good luck.

thanks guys. im getting conflicting info from a maverick site. 300hp/30mpg is hard to pass up. in a lighter maverick the mpg should be even better. im going to do some research into this. if it's possible i may actually be willing to make a swap kit for these cars. the maverick engine bay is just so damned snug. a 302 barely fits.

not saying an LS1 isnt impressive though.

I'm pretty sure it will fit. It's a rather small mill.
I know that the dimensions for the 302 (without carb) are as follow:
LengthxWidthxHeight = 29x24x27.5
So that gives you a point of reference.

The 3.7 length and height will clear... only the width might be questionable because of the dual cam heads. I say it will clear as well, even with the master cylinder...
Call FRPP tech line to confirm... 800 367-3788.

now im getting exited....
ill call FRPP tomm and get exact numbers. i figure ill need to manufacture custom motor and frame mounts, as well as exhaust set up . anyone know what transmissions will link up to the 3.7? the REALLY hard part may be getting the tuning/wiring right. i've heard of issues with 5.0 swaps and getting the computer to work right with lack of tire pressure sensors and some other bits and ends. if this can be done then it could also be a good swap for mustang II's and classics.

Yeah, this would be great for any of the small to intermediate Fords from the 60s (mustangs, falcons, comets, fairlanes, torinos, etc.) or any of the fox body vehicles from the 70s and 80s too. They're so light compared to today's cars that it's a no-brainer. The fairlanes and torinos are only about 3100 lbs with minimal options, and this motor should cut down on the weight some too. Take out the spare and the back seats, even better. It would be incredible in that platform. I remember there was tons of room on either side of the 302s that I was running in both of mine, even with the power brake booster on the one. Early Falcons are like 2300 lbs, so if you could shoe-horn it in, the car would be scary fast with that kind of power. Even a Fairmont would be amazing with an engine like this. If you can come up with a mounting system that mimics the lower external dimensions of the 302 Windsor motor while allowing it to sit low in the engine bay, you'd sell a ton of 'em. I think the only thing people would miss is the emotional thrill of a V8 sound. But IMO it won't take long for the sound of a high performance V6 to catch on now that they can be had in American iron.

Also, as far as the master cylinder goes, if I remember correctly, there was a special offset booster for the Mavericks with both the V8 and power brake option, so it might be possible to have a fab-free power brake setup on this.
