Default 351 swap bolt up/ flexplate help.

I have been away from the site for a bit, but I am pretty certain I have read through all the stickys/ 351 swap threads I could find, so if I blatently missed something, please feel free to link me to it.

Here's my story. I have been trying to sell my stang to upgrade to a project for winter and/or get a truck for work in the mean time. I have a 79 Mustang. it was an official pace car, but it has a newer 302 swapped in and a C-4 tranny. To make a long story short, I was laying on it the other day and either blew a head gasket or cracked a head. It's pouring coolant into the engine bay right under the rear corner of the head where it bolts to the block. So, now I'm left with either fixing it, or I have my friends 351 which I was going to swap over during winter if I couldn't sell my Stang.

My new plan is to pull the 5.0 and get going on the 351 swap, but I was just wondering if anyone knew if a stock flexplate is the same on the 5.0's and 5.8's. (like size, teeth, bolt holes etc.) I can't find too much info on that, and until now I really haven't paid much attention to those facts. Also, the 351 is complete, mildly built and came out of a 86' bronco mated to a C-6 tranny (i think) if that makes any difference. Any help would be appreciated. I just don't want to pull my motor out and find out that the 351 isn't going to bolt up without a different tranny or crank.

You can buy a new flexplate on the cheap. Autozone/Napa would have something to fix you up.

Default yea

I wouldn't buy a cheap one because I also work at a garage that races Cummins pickups. I have seen a few flexplates get ripped to pieces. Torque converters too. People think it's worthless to buy a performance flexplate, because it's not like a flywheel in a clutch assembly, where there is direct power all the time. Nobody thinks about the tire chirping shifts with an auto and 450 HP to the ground.
