Action_Jackson posted this on another forum:

"I believe the transmission is actually shifted by the computer based on driver input and speed. If you try to shift into first at 65 mph the computer won't allow it, probably not even second. If you hold the car in low gear for too long it will hit the rev limiter on the engine, but will not shift to the next gear.

I have tested these two on accident, I accidentally shifted into second when I was trying to pass someone, but the car only shifted into third, I noticed when I shifted up again it didn't shift because I was moving into third instead of drive. When I first got the car I was seeing what it could do in a quarter mile and as I shifted to second it hit the rev limiter, and the engine cut out till it shifted. There is a little bit of a lag, so you will have to actually shift just a little before you hit red line so the car will shift before it hits the rev limiter.

IMO, If you just floor the car it pretty much shifts right were it needs too. It just doesn't downshift quick enough, and shifts up too quickly if you don't really have your foot into it."

Which was followed by this reply from Chris at B&M:

"the vehicle solenoids and electonics are speed sensitive on the tranny side and therefore will keep the vehicle from downshifting when the rev limit reaches a certain threshhold."

Which was followed by Doug at Bamachips who is one of the most respected Tuner programmers for 4.0L Mustangs:

"There are set parameters in the PCM for downshifting, the auto will not go back down into 1st from second if you are going more then 35 mph, I can adjust this in the tune but even with that I can only go so high."

Hope this eases your mind a bit.

I do that when i wanna take off alil faster so if your gonna use 1,2,3 i would suggest shifting from 1st to 2nd at 3500rpms, 2nd to 3rd at 3500rpms and 3rd to drive at like 3000rpms thats how i do it and it dont seem to cause any problems to my tranny.

Thanks so much for the help. I do it to get around corners faster when I have to slow down to like 15 or 20mph. I hate having to floor
it to get it to go so I just downshift it into like 1st or 2nd and GO rather than gassing it so much. Thanks for all the
ease of mind now I'm gonna go drive around and have some fun!!!!

Tranny Question by Sick Six....[sm=laughat.gif]

hehehehe....
Sorry, I just think it sounds funny

Seriously though, I think I get more out of my car as far as speed goes when I am shifting.

Ya someone told me about shifting it from 1st to get off faster when i was racing with some friends. Some people call it fake shifting but for those that dont have a manual and like to shift well at least we have some form of shifting we can do.

[:@] Hey chuckcfs. Don't you think some people would like
to come here to get info rather than getting bashed with everything you ask.
I mean isn't that why we are here, to learn more about our cars?
I just didn't wanna go out and do it and f#ck up my car! I really don't see
what humor you find in all of it.....[sm=WTFsgign.gif]

Sorry, not trying to bash at all. Its something only dirty minded people will get and it really has nothing to do with you or your question. So I appologize!
