28 spline 7.5 axle
Have a 2009 v6 5 speed. Detroit locker with 3:73 richmond gears. Would like to add a vortech. Question is I dont think the oem 7.5 28 spine axle can handle the tolerance. To late to switch to a 8.8 axle that would improve tolerance by 34%.
Anyone suggest a aftermarket axle that is 28 spline 7.5 that will mimic the tolerance of 8.8 I believe with the vortech the rear wheel HP should be around 300hp. I am not putting sticky tires on and not racing. A daily driver with rubber left on some lonely open roads. Thanks. So is it worth 7000 for the vortech install and all the goodies just to have the rear blow on me?

Usually it's the torque that will damage a rear axle. Plus, more often it's a sudden launch that does it in. Since you're not drag racing it regularly you should be fine. It seems that you've already upgraded the gears and differential, so a stronger set of axles would be the next logical step. I am not sure of the manufacturers in particular, but both Strange and Moser makes great stuff. Check out summitracing.com or google it for more information.

No, 7k is way too much to spend just so you can leave rubber on some back road somewhere. You can't leave much rubber with 3.73's? sounds like you really need a good custom performance tune to me. A small shot of nitrous would be another option.
You can't just add the 31 spline axles with out changing out the differential to match. So after you replace the locker (not a t-lock, you really went with a Detroit locker??) and axles you are going to well exceed the cost of an 8.8 new take-off.
