Noob Help
Hi all,</P>
You have all been very helpful so far. We went and bought our car this past Friday with the help some of you gave us. Very happy. <IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0"></P>
We're not going to go crazy but we do want to hear a little more Varoooooom at a idle stand still. So we're wondering what we need. We know new mufflers. But have no idea what kind.</P>
We have a 2000 gt convertible. Automatic. <IMG src=smileys/smiley19.gif border="0">We looked high and low for a standard in this color and size but nothing. Either way still happy. But would like to hear her purr louder. Not super load but more then stock.</P>
Also can someone explain what a stall coverter is and do we have it already and need to get rid of it or need to put one in. What exactly does it do?</P>
We feel that pulling out of a parking lot or off the line at a light it seems like the car won't go unless you really put the metal down. we want this thing to take off running.</P>
So noobs here, just need to know some basics. </P>
Also big noob question here.... </P>
Overdrive, on or off on a auto? lol, sorry.</P>
thanks for any help</P><edited><editID>fromslow2fast</editID><editDate>38032.9618518519</editDate></edited>

Alot of people on here like the Magnaflows, but I prefer the Flowmasters. As far as a stall convertor, what it does is it lets the motor get up into its power band before actually locking in completely. What that means is you need to step on the gas more to get the car to move. As for the overdrive question, off in town, and on on the highway.

IMHO I love my Magnaflows. I think they were louder before my Long tubes and x pipe (kinda wierd) but definantly gave the sound (and some power) I needed</P>
Listen to Flying on the stall converter and overdrive, sounds good. What do we know about overdrive anyway? (5 spd)</P>
Good luck with your new toy</P>

I'll give you somebackground here...</P>
First off, mufflers may* help performance...but not near as much as getting an h-pipe with no cats. A Mac Pro Chamber H-pipe runs $220 on ebay. It has a nice, deep rumble and really improves performance...it "balances out the engine'sexhaust outputson the 90-180-270 degree engine rotations" and increases horsepower...if you wanna know how it works.....</P>
If you want performance to kick in at a parking lot or stoplight, you'll have to get "thinner" h or x-pipes than 2 and a half inches. The larger diameter your pipes are, the more gains you'll have at high rpm (but a low gain at low rpm). The thinner your diameter is, the more gains you have at low rpm (sacrificing high rpm gains). BUT, that would probably require the same diameter headers as the pipes if someone can answer that???</P>
*Personally I didn't realize any realistic difference worth talking about changing mufflers, just better sound. The gains came when I had the Pro Chamber installed...</P>
