no the 4R70 tranny is not bad, until it is compared to chevys 4L60-E, the 4R70 is good, it just sucks at preformance trans-go shift kit w/manual valve bodies, and a torque convorter will help out

would you need to re-program anything in the computer for the new converter?

how to beef up your automatic transmission.

1) Handheld Tuner
2) Shift Kit
3) Torque Converter
4) Tranny Cooler

I was under the impression that a torque converter and a 'stall' was the same thing. If not, what's the difference?

I got my Xcal2 before the software update came out so when I got my dyno tune for the Xcal2 there was no way for me to make any adjustments to shift points or anything else so the tuner emailed me the tune as a file that can be adjusted with SCT's old software everybody always used with the 1st XCal called Xtreme software. You can still use this software if you have the Xcal2 updated but you need to have the tuner make a special file with a .xtr extension to use the old software. If you use the old software and put it into your xcal2 you loose adjustability to change anything on the unit itself unless you use the file that works with the handheld unit adjustability. I know that was confusing.

This screen shot shows one of my tunes opened in the free Xtreme software. If you look at the top you can see the colors and numbers. The light red is the 1-2 up-shift and the dark red is the 2-1 downshift and so on. On the left grid it shows Miles per hour and the bottom grid shows throttle position. You can drag any point you want to make changes to the shift points in relation to throttle position. Same with converter lock up. The converter has a lockup clutch that locks the converter to the trans at a certain MPH in relation to throttle position. You cant make these adjustments on the unit itself, only on your PC including timing, rear gear and other stuff.

I ask simply because I just installed a 2,800 stall torque converter in my practically stock 96gt.
My tranny was shot and during the rebuil I asked my mechanic for a different converter he said 2,400 or 2,800 stall.
I said 2,800 but I have no bought a tranny cooler or a shift kit yet. I just don't want it to drive like ****.
