Brakes, which ones, how much?

I'm getting the red front kit for 499.00, and they have a rear upgrade for 299.00 that gives you the 13 inch rears

I got the 11.65s. Im pretty sure thats the place I looked at when I was considering the the 13" rears. You should call and talk to them, I dont think that 299 includes the rear calipers.
When I called they said the brackets would work with either the gt or cobra rear calipers. They said the bracket just moves the caliper to allow for a larger rotor, but does not increase the pad/rotor surface contact area.
I believe they wanted an extra 200 for the calipers. It was my impression I would be paying about 500 dollars for the rear kit, including the calipers that would do nothing extra except look a little nicer and add extra, unwanted weight.
If my car was a show car, id definately do it, otherwise, imo id skip them.

I did call them...They said it comes with the cobra rear calipers to fit the 11.65's, and then the bracket to fit the 13's so I guess I see what your saying about surface area. But the 13 inch rotor does help in the sense that it dissapates heat throughout a bigger rotor doesn't it? At least thats what I thought...

wow, thats a good deal then if it includes the calipers and rotors. usually the calipers alone are 200 bucks. If it comes with everything you need for 800, F it, get the 13s theyll look good! BTW, how much will shipping cost?
They might dissapate heat faster, but the rear brakes don't do nearly as much braking as the fronts anyways. Im not sure how much of a difference there would be between the 11.65s and 13s since theyre both vented.
On the other hand, the weight savings between the 11.65s and 13s probably isnt huge. So for that price get the 13s. I just thought you'd have to pay the extra 200 for the calipers pushing your cost up to 1000; if that were the case id say skip it.

I'm picking them up since it only about a half hour drive...So you think its worth it? How do you like your kit? Is it a dramtic difference between stock gt brakes? I'm also think about getting the cobra r front brake kit with the 4 piston brembo's. A guy offered them to me for 850, but on the mustang tuning website it says these won't fit bullit wheels...

the reason larger brakes can stop better even with the same contact area is that the farther they are out, the faster the roter is moving at the point of contact. This means that the brakes give more braking horsepower. It's not too much about cooling or anything else, just the extra speed at the extrema of the disk where the calipers clamp down.
