Hey guys, I am going to be getting a Mustang GT, and I was wondering if one year is better than another between the 1996, 1997 and 1998. Are they all the exact same, or did some option come out in one year that the previous year didn't have? Another question I had was can you make a 1996-1998 look like a 2003, or did something change from now to then, I didn't think anything did, but I just wanted to make sure. i know the body style changed form 98 to 99 to a more square body rather than being rounded off therfore you cant make a 98 and below look like a 99 and up. The lights also changed too.

supergt is right. there's absolutely no way to make a 96-98 look like a new gt. there is one minor difference between the 96's and the 98's. the 98's have about 10 more HP than the 96's. other than that, they are basically clones.

Ok, well how about the 99's, can you make them look like the 03's if ya wanted to? When did they come out with that posi-trac button? My friend has it in his GT, but its a 2003. When did the Mach stereo become an option, and is it a good system? Thanks, Ryan

Yes. Get the smoked headlights, and the '03 hood...l think that's it.

Cool, my dad is going to let me get a Mustang GT finally after months of convincing I think im gonna go ahead and put some of my own money into it instead of just my mom and dads and try and get the 1999. What do you guys think of the Stalker Hood? Would that look good on a 1999 GT? Or mabey the Roush hood, where do you buyRoush on the internet, and can you buy them individually? Thanks, Ryan</P>

i have the mach stereo in my car, i like it a lot - the bass hits hard and there's good clarity in the highs, of course i could be partial cuz i love my car hehehe <IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0">

'96 - '97 GT: 215hp </P>


'98 GT: 225hp (only difference)</P>


'99-'00 GT: 260hp + different body style</P>


'01+ GT: 260hp, different hood and side scoops, also maybe headlights</P>


If I were you I would try to get '01+ GT. You can find a good one with low miles for like 14K on the autotrader.com and thats the best looking one, drop it, put 17's or 18's on it and swap front bumper for '03 Cobra one...KICK ***!<IMG src=smileys/smiley10.gif border="0">You'regood to go!</P>


You can't make '98 GT look like '99+ or actually you could but you would have to do the same thing Ford did<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P>


And Mach460 was an option already in '95 model years...maybe even earlier??! Dunno for sure. Anyways the new ones can have Mach 1000...thats damn loud stock system!</P>
