I installed 355 gears in my mustang and there was not a gear available to calibrate my speedo. If you can't find a gear you can go the route I did and install a SpeedCal elecronic box from Dallas Mustang. I think it was about $100. You can adjust the box in very fine increments to calibrate it for your new gears as well as any changes to youw wheels and tires. The box was easy to install and essentially reads the pulses from the tranny and converts the frequency to your speedo. The device came with a table with the switch setting for various rear conversions. I checked mine over ten miles on a marked highway and it is right in the money. A State cop also verified my speed, however, he charged me $120 for the service and 3 points on my licence.

here is what I found:

Lower gears (higher number) will increase the torque at the rear wheels leading to a higher force at the tires.

F=MA.

If the force is higher, same car mass, then your car accelerates faster. The horsepower throughout the powertrain will not change.

HP = Torque X RPM/5252

If torque goes up then RPM goes down equally resulting in the same horsepower.

looks like what everyone 'feels' to be hp is really just torque.

Okay, im not saying who is right or wrong. Im not saying if a gear change will add horsepower or not. But, with stock 3.27 gears, car ran 14.3. When changing gears to 3.73 car ran 13.6. Does that help anyone?

I guess so. All that for nothing.LOL.

Melectrok, That is due to the gears bringing you into the powerband quicker. Not adding any additional power.
