I've tried a lot of different RTV silicone's and the Motorcraft has always been the best in my opinion, you can get it a the Dealer. As for the seal, look at the plate and you should see some telltales of where the old seal was,the back side of the sealshould be about 1/4" - 9/64'sbelow the surface of the plate to leave room for the slinger which DOES go on the crank after the plate is installed, good luck.

Ive gotten the inner part of the rear main seal out but the outter partis still latched onto the ring its so old its like I have to scrape therubber off of the ring but it wont all come off....

Im having a similar problem, im trying to get the rear main seal off without taking my engine apart but the inner real main seal is already out but the outer part is stuck in it like its latched onto it anyhelp please??????
