ORIGINAL: SINISTER
When I did my gears, I used 2 and a half bottles of the royal purple gear oil. That is what was recommended, and that is what I did.

Thye shop manual says 2.0L (4.25 qts) of 75W-140 synthetic gear oil plus 118 mL (4 oz) of friction modifier--most of the "aftermarket" synthetic gear oils made specifically for t-lok and posi-trak rears ends alreadycontain friction modifier. The advantage of using straigh gear oild and adding FM is that you can put it less than the recommended 4 oz (probably not less than 2 oz however) and make the clutch packs grabbier which can give you an edge at the strip. It might pop and chatter in normal driving though...

I JUST filled my stock rear end of last week. It took almost all of 2qts. And Damnit if Ford didn't put that fill plug in the WORST POSSIBLE PLACE!!!!!!!! I didn't put any friction modifier in it tho(long story).

2 liters of 75w-140 synthetic is what the manual says (2 bottles of royal purple basically).
(the bottles i got are .9544341234 liters or some crap and with the friction stuff it will come to about 2 liters)
