Default Cams issue

Well I just placed an order for my nitrous kit...NX wet kit[sm=badbadbad.gif]

so now i'm looking at the stage II patriot heads and stage II Cushman N/A cams package...

however: "These cams are the original VT Stage 2 N/A grind that I developed for VT. Stage 2 cams are the perfect choice for stock or ported heads and great all around N/A street/strip performance. MUST BE USED WITH AFTERMARKET VALVESPRINGS. Aggressive idle. 2800-6200 rpm. Gains of 30-35rwhp are common. Like 3.73 gear or better and 2800+ stall in auto's. MUST BE TUNED AFTER INSTALL .560/.575 lift, 225/235 .050" duration "

whats going to happen if I install a cam like this and have my stock gearing and stock stall in my auto? I was thinking 4:10's down the road anyway, but i really wasnt thinking about a higher stall speed...do i really need to do these first? or will I be ok installing the heads/cams without the gears/stall. HELP!

Your gonna need the gears, trust me without them your gonna take forever and a day to build rpm.

If you're spraying, why are you looking at N/A cams? Why don't you get a custom-ground nitrous cam?

I have yet to see a nitrous cam for the 2v thats that much different than a n/a cam. I would rather have a n/a cam anyway unless it was a track only car. Generally speaking a n/a cam is going to run very well in a n20 car.

The cams are going to reduce TQ down low, so without at least the gears its going to want to bog in 1st before you get into the upper RPM.

nitrous will be for the track and occasional street romp.....thanks for the info guys.

I was planning on 4:10s anyway. How bout the higher stall speed? I'm guessing thats because of the loss of low end tq as well? or will having gears take care of that?

There is no real loss of low end power with these cams at all. The reason for the higher stall convertor is to just getthe motor into the powerband of the cam faster. It won't be a hugh issue if you have a stock convertor. At least put some gear in it...and you'll be fine.

I couldn't agree with youmore! You don't need a "nitrous grind" cam until you are spraying ALOT of nitrous. By ALOT I mean more than what 90% of street cars use.

i have the comp stage 2's with factory gears still and i can definately tell i need lower gears. going to be buying some pretty soon. comp and vt's are pretty similar so i would imagine it would do about the same thing. as far as the stall goes, i would recommend it as well, i find myself slipping the clutch a lot more to get the rpms up when launching.
