Default Firewall adjuster

I had my clutch installed today. I love it, but dont understand how to set up the firewall adjuster for the best feel. I havent really messed with it much because I am afraid to mess it up. It works good the way it is, but there is slack between the adjuster and the stop (black factory plastic thing that is up against the adjuster). Should there be slack or should I adjuster the slack out? Whats the best way to adjusted it? To what feels best? And is there anything I should beware of by adjusting it? I mean can I go to far to where it would work and mess up the whole thing?

It should be adjusted so that there is 1 to 1-1/4 inch of free-play in the clutch pedal--I.e. pedal travel before you feel the throw-out bearing start to press on the clutch spring.
