hello

when and why would you want to upgrade the harmonic balancer / dampner? i've seen a few underdrive kits which come with them while others don't.

thanks.

Well, either if yours is bad (slipped) or you need to meet rules for racing which most require an aftermarket SFI approved dampner. Some kits come with them because they are required with the crank pulley change.

so there's no performance gain associated with an aftermarket unit right?

Not as far as the balancer itself is concerned, the aftermarket balancers are 1 piece and usually do a better job of keeping things in balance. They could be lighter too maybe, and that would reduce rotating weight.

some dyno test have seen improvements with aftermarket balancers but mostly it's for longevity of your motor,to suppress harmful harmonics that can crack your crankshaft.

I installed a set of Steeda underdrive pulleys, now I have a small oil leak coming from the balancer that came with the kit. Anyone know anything about this? Was a seal damaged at the time of installation??
