The previous owner put on the overlay. He did a pretty good job on everything except the speedomoter. My first tuner thought I had 3.73 gears and set the computer accordingly. It cause my odometer to read slow by 14%. My second tuner thought I had 3.55 gears and set the computer accordingly. It cause my odometer to be off 8.5%. I jacked up the car and checked. I had 3.27 gears (at the time).

If you just snap the speedometer needle on with the car setting still it will read 7 mph faster than what you are actually driving.

To put the speedometer on correctly you have to put the odometer in test mod so that it will display mph and then snap the needle on with the wheels turning. I jacked up the car to do this. I've heard some say they just drove down the road. I'm not that coordinated. I would have ended up in a ditch.

Default WHite Face Gauges

CHeck out the Simco white gauge overlay kit sold by American Muscle. I am replacing the ones I got from US SPEEDO which I have never liked with the Simco gauge kit.

Put your odometer in test mode. Hold down on the button, turn the ignition key on but do not start the motor. The odometer will do a self test. When its done press the button a few times until the display read ENG00000. The odometer will now display your speed in miles per hour. Start the car and drive down the road. You can compare your speedometer to the odometer. They should read exactly the same. If not the needle was put on wrong when the overlay was installed.

The speedometer needle typically doesn't move at all until the car reaches 7-10 mph. If the needle was put back on with the car setting still then it will be off my that amount. Mine was off a constant 7 mph.

I've had this setup on my car for at least 2 years without incident. You don't have to remove the needles and the install is pretty easy.
