Here is a helpful link.http://www.americanmuscle.com/unders...t-systems.html

Thanks to our friends at AM. This should help you with our terminology.

You want to keep the diameter consistent throughout the exhaust. So if you get a 2.5" mid, you want it going to a 2.5" catback, not a 2.25" stock catback. Also, with reusing the stock cats, I don't know if you may have an issue there, since you stuck 2.25" cats onto a 2.5" pipe. With the cats, just get some slp or magnaflow hi-flows.

Nice, nice. Yeah that all helps. I'm calling them now and see exactly what they did. I'll post it back here in about 30min

Okay, kind of what thought, he cut the pipe right after the cats, and started the 2.5 piping into the X - Pipe all the back through the mufflers and out to the 2.5 tailpipes. So it's 2.5 all the way back.

I wonder if it's just the difference of going from the H-pipe to the X-pipe. Moving the power from the low end to the higher end?

Bro there are plenty of companies out there that make nice kits for your car. SLP makes a X-pipe kit you can take the cat's off and run strait pipe to the x. BBK and Magnaflo make nice catted x-pipes. Cat back systems same thing its all in what you want. And it sounds like the guy you took your car to, doesn't know what the hell he is doing. I wouldn't take it back their if I where you. It sounds like you have a bunch of bottle necking going on and this will hurt performance big time.

Make sure you have 2.5" piping all the way through, get rid of the stock cats, and if your wife liked the deeper sound, I'd recommend going back to an h-pipe. Don't have a shop chop one up, just buy one. They're fairly easy to install yourself, the roughest part is getting the old one out.

Hmmm, I think only bottleneck would be at the stock cats because from there back it's all 2.5in pipe.

I'm wondering if the difference is purely an X-Pipe vs H-Pipe thing. High end power vs low end power. Just changing the place where the power really comes alive.

The other thing that is crossing my mind is perhaps we don't have enough up front breather mods to really take advantage of the 2.5 catback. She has a intake that butts up agains the fender well cut out with a cover on it, but it doesn't go into the fender itself. That's it as far as air intake stuff goes.

On my Maxima, I have the CAI, IM spacers up front and once I finally got the rest of the exhaust done it all came together.

It's 2.5 all the way. Confirmed that. I am strongly leaning towards this...just getting a 2.5in H-pipe. Any cheapy brands I should be avoiding?

Found these http://www.streetperformance.com/par...1480-1538.html but looks like they need headers.

There all pretty good. Its all about what you want. BBK, Mack, Magnaflo, Corsa, SLP, Pypes are all good brand X & H pipes. How much do you want to spend on it? Go to Americanmuscle.com you will get a forum discount. And that H-pipe is for cars that have long tube headers which I would also do if I where you.

If you re-used the mufflers from the old 2.25 pipes, they are still 2.25 as well. This is another bottleneck in your system. Complete exhaust .com used to offer nice discounts for forum members too. I bought my Magnaflow catted x and cat back for $762 delivered.

You should just get a full exhaust and be done with it - meaning headers, mid-pipe, catback. You will feel the difference, but will need a custom tune at that point.
