Maybe the overdrive switch for the gear selector of an automatic.. who knows. Is there nothing connected to it? Why are you so concerned?

Shortshifter in an auto? Pardon me if I have misunderstood, but how does that work?

I have no clue what that part might be. I suppose a picture would help us determine what it might be. Was it connected to anything?

Haha, no I know he has a 5spd, I'm thinking it may be part of a shared harness (unless the sticks and autos have different harnesses completely) in which case...

pretty sure thats a connection for the center console (parking brake sensor and such)

it has nothing to do with the short throw install, so i don't understand your concern.
