I've been reading some of the previous posts and a lot of guys are saying the 4:10s are amazing but some are saying the 3:73s are enough for the 96-98's. What should I put in my 96? 3:73 or 4:10?

shucks man, i love my 3:73's it scares me silly sometimes when i hit second in my automatic and it breaks free and kicks sideways. i am an "on the road" salesman and i cruise the highway alot. the 3:73's are perfect, not to little and not too much. i got the 3:73's also in anticipation of the procharger that is going on this week and my local shop said it was a good thing i did go with 3:73's since i am gonna supercharge it. regardless and even without the charger my gears rock! I do think its best that a pro install them though cause they say that if the tolerances are not just right you will burn up the rear end. it is a tricky sort of thing. heres the info i gathered this week. hope it helps and blessings!

Check out the link HERE

Type in your tire size, pick your tranny, and the gear ratio, and it will tell you MPH and RPMs

I was very unhappy with the 4.10's in my 03 GT 5-speed...I should have went 4.30's (and half my 30min ride every morning to work is on the highway at 70mph)

Pre-99 Automatic GT's can use a Speedcal from Abbott or Dallas Mustang, 99+ GT's need to purchase a tuner to adjust the speedo.

Due to different transmission gearing, it is best for 96-98 Manual GT's to have 3.73 gears & Auto's to have 4.10 gears.

For 99+ Auto GT's 4.10 gears are the best bang for your buck, for 99+ Manual GT's your best gear selection will be 4.10's at a minimum, as the gear ratio was slightly altered for slightly better gas mileage.

I have 4.30 gears. At the track, with my mods, I was near redline in 4th gear, which is good. With some taller, stickier tires I will make maximum use of my gears.

Hope this helps some more.
What everyone fails to notice is that the T-45 has a different 5th gear ratio than the 3650. My car tachs @ 70 MPH w/3.73s exactly what a car with a 3650 and 4.10s does at the same speed!!

However, the real truth is that there is NOT that much difference between the 2 gear sets. If two identical cars other than the gears race (3.73 vs 4.10s) it is still gonna be a drivers race. And if you are not running a pretty sticky tire, espcially on a non prepared surface like a everyday road, your gonna have an easyer time launching with 3.73s vs 4.10s. Hell, I have traction problems as it is now. I don't want a steeper first/second gear.

Does anyone know a way to adjust the speedometer needle after installing 3.73's without a superchip?

I'm considering on ordering some 4:10's for my 03 GT very soon. This spring I am most likely going to put a 75 shot of nitrous in her. Would 4:10's be to steep for this setup? I've heard 4:10's with a s/c doesn't work very well. Is it the same with nitrous?? Thanks Kyle

For your 96-98 GT Manuals, 3.73 gears are nearly equal to 4.10's in a Tremec 3650 transmission found in 01-04 GT's. For 96-98 GT's 3.73's are fine, but going with 4.10's is still a better idea, far better idea actually.

With a blower, it depends on your application. Are you going to just run around on the street? Have you done any suspension modifications to make use of new gears? 3.73's seem to be the gear of choice for a supercharger, as most people won't be running around on BFG Drag Radials or Nitto's all the time on the street. Ideally, you want a 4.10 gear in there, but you have to be willing to run ATLEAST some LCA's and a set of radials.

For NA 01-04 GT's, even 99-00 GT's with the weak tranny, 4.10/4.30 are the IDEAL gear. When people start talking about "running out of gear" or "redlining before the traps", these things are easily offset with the help of a little traction and TALLER tire.

I had 4.30's in my 02 GT, I got over 20mpg in town with several runs through the gears. Originally I had 4.10's and decided I didn't have enough gear and went with 4.30's. ..That's how bad 2v 4.6's NEED AS MUCH GEAR as you are willing to give them. I wasn't shifting every other second, it wasn't a pain in the *** to drive, infact compared to my buddies 04 GT with 3.27's in it, my car was FAR easier to drive and it didn't do any of the bogging my buddies car did.

They do have a Tremec3650 stock, maybe he swapped in a T56 though? Even with a T56 you still want 4.10's.

What's a good price to have gears installed? I've two places out here quote me $500 and $600. I also found some 4.10's for $150, is that a good price?

No, that's a terrible price. You should reasonably be able to get them installed for half of that.
