Default please help guys

I have a friend, he has a stang, and when he drives his car, the pass side rear tire makes like a popping noise, we took the wheel off and it has like a fluid that's pouring out, we thought it was the brake caliper we took it off, wasn't that. Thought it could have been a broken brake line, all of them are still intact, the fluid looks like its leaking from behind the rotor , what could it be? Thanks in advance guys.

The axle seal is shot and the gear oil is leaking/has leaked out--if the popping is worse when turning then it is likely the LSD clutch packs are dry and destroying themselves.

Tell "your friend" to stop driving the car until the seal is fixed or he may find himself spending several hundreds of dollars for a complete axle rebuild--unless it's already toasted...

ok , is that an easy fix? I am intermediate in working on cars, how does this sort of thing happen, and is there anything you can do to prevent it?
