Gears (and ratios)

To put it simply, you will pull a few carlengths on a stock mustang. 373s are a good choice. If you are going to go further with your mods, I would reccomend upgrading axles at the same time. Some folks have had a lot of luck with stock axles, but its a timebomb that will cost you more in the long run than beefing things up while you are installing gears.

u said to change axles... how much time and money are we looking at spending here-with the 3.73 gears(which ever make u reccomend) and the new axles...thanks

Gears (and ratios)
most of the reason why guys who drag race put really big gears in the diff. like lets just say 4.56 gear
so they can run bigger tires(slicks 32" dia.) with out
slowing down the car.Just remember you can make your car excel. faster just by going to smaller diameter tires.(with out putting a bigger gear in the rear end, because when you go with a small tire it kinda changes your gear ratio)
and slow it down by going bigger.thats why guys call gears like a 3.73 and 4.10 ratio; street gears you don't have to worry about changing tire size when you do it.
