Default t-56 and 4.10 gears

I just got my 4.10 gears installed and its niceeee! The only thing I dont like is the high rpms on the interstate, its not the gas milage i dont like its the motor turning that many rpms for along period of time, but i guess it wont hurt it. My problem is I think my tranny is on the way out it doesnt grind in any gears it just make this ticking noise the whole time your on the gas and 4th gear the shifter vibrates and moves around a lot, maybe its going out or maybe its something else idk or maybe I just want a good tranny for the peace of mind. my throwout bearing is also starting to sqeek. My questions is Will puting a t-56 trans in my car defeat the purpose of having 4.10 gears sine that tranny is gearing higher than the t-45 in all gears?

Is there another tranny that will bolt up to this motor without to much hassle, I figure if im gonna replace it i may as well put a better tranny in it.

The T-56 has many difference gear sets. depending on which one you go with will depend on how your car preforms.

If I could have my pick of any gearset for my Mustang I would have liked the ratios used in the 2001-2004 Z06 and the new GTO's.

The M12 it has a 2.97 1st gear instead of the Cobra's 2.66. Also all of the lower gears are all closer ratio. Along with a .56 overdrive in 6th.

By comparison the 03-04 Cobra's T-56 has a .63 6th gear.

With these trans ratios you'd likely improve performance because of the closer ratios which keep you in power band. Along with increasing highway fuel mileage because of the tall overdrive.

The tall overdrive will help bring your RPM's back down a little on the highway. You can use a gear calculator or simply do the math yourself to see what you would be turning on the highway.

Do you know where would be the cheapest place to buy a t-56 the only place I found was at late model restoration and they want $2600 for the t-56 with the gear ratio of 1st-2.97, 2nd-2.07, 3rd-1.43, 4th-1.00, 5th-.80, 6th-.62

So i dont know if that is the cobra spec tranny or what.
I like the gear ratios but not the price lol.

I would recommend you get what is commonly referred to as the "Viper Spec" This has a .5 6th gear and is the best you will do with the 4:10's you runnin'. Take a look at my T-56 swap thread (sig) and have TONS of info on gear ratios and such.

Saved up for the swap(its the fire wall work that's gonna cost the most) just waiting for my transmission to go, shouldn't be too long hehehe.

Top speed in 5th gear means that 6th is pure fuel economy, which means lower rpms on the highway.

its a direct swap (besides needing a different DS) so i don't know what you're talking about here.

both 5th and 6th are overdrive gears (damn you ford) in the 03/04 t56, so both are for fuel economy. when you get on it, you really aren't using the last two gears. if im in 6th on the highway and want to punch it, i'll either put it in 3rd or 4th depending on my speed, but never 5th.
