so....

keep oil full

put my post and your pots together

you aer suggesting catastropic failure within 1K miles? or less?

I'm running my car like it ought to be, but I have NO idea where this oil went.
there are no trails, there is no significant burning hot oil smell

i'll let you onw what the floor looks like tomorrow

The only way to definitively answer this question would be to disassemble the engine and see "what's what".

That you continued to drive it with the o/p gauge and warning lamp "flickering" is not good, when that happens you should shut down immediately and check the oil--although more regular inspection would have revealed the loss before things got to where they did.

I have always checked the oil in our cars at least once every 200 miles or so, more often if there is a known leak or if consumption rises.

How many miles on your car? How often do you change the oil, how many miles ago was it last changed?

its a 99,,, 99,XXX on the odometer, owned it since '04

oil changes every 3-5K miles.

i guess the only reason I didnt pull over immediately is because when I first notices the issue it was at 0.....hopped back up, stayed there for a bit,,,,dropped to 0....hopped bavk up etc.....

and beleive me, im crusing at 60 mph and see a 0 on the oil pressure guage and i was off thegas and on the brake...but **** went bavk to normal and started hopping around

oil looked just as dark as normal, no more shiney, no bets of anyhting (that I could see)

it was a standard oil change, with less than normal discharge *thas waht im calling it*

Well it sounds like you keep on top of it, very odd that it lost that much oil that fast?

Are you 100% certain it was fully filled at the last change?

As to damage, while the o/p light was blinking off the oil pressure was less than 6 psi--the whole engine will have suffered from the experience...
I was drinking last night so I must have missd this part.

The oil pressure LIGHT never came on... no lights, nothing...

just the gauge dropping, and then returning to normal.

Had the same issue with my car a month back. The jumping gauges and all. Started hearing the knock on the highway on a long drive, and i was pressed for time. Was going to take it to get an oil change the next day. Needless to say my car never made it there... No clue how i burnt/leaked so much oil so quickly but whatever you do get it fixed ASAP. I Had to buy a beater truck now cause my engines shot, but on the plus side its now a new project
