Default Gear whine out of no where?

I did my gears 373s frpp and have had a problem with them. I found a leaking pinion seal and axle seal. Replaced them both. Topped off fluid which only takes 2 quarts with my frpp girdle doesn't seem right. Now the seal is leaking a week later can't tell if it's from the pinion flange part or the housing part but it's leaking bad. Now I hear a high pitch whine only when on the gas above 65mph. Idk if it my rear or my trans since my tailshaft seal is leaking as well and my 3 gear synchro is shot. How can I tell? Could it be from switching out the old seal and tightening the crush seal too much?

Seems to me you didn't replace the seal properly. Or maybe it wasnt the pinion seal leaking to begin with. Hopefully you didn't score the sealing surface while getting the seal off.

Have you checked the level of fluid? A whine tell me low fluid? What fluid did you put in the diff?

Also...on a side note, you should probably consolidate your questions into one thread. Maybe use a title like, "Running gear questions" or something of the sort. Really helps clean up the forums!

Cheers.

How do you know you could of over torqued the crush sleve? Did you put a new sleeve in aswell or just replaced seal and tighten the nut again? What did you torque it too? How much fluid did it take when you topped it off?

If you know what you're doing, you can leave the rear together and not worry about the crush collar. I'd check fluid level, but the gear whine is most likely the ring/pinion. What brand gears did you use?

gear whine is usually caused by backlash not set right, which is it set right trust me, im thing the crush sleeve may have tightened too much when i put the nut back on after the seal change and preloaded the bearings causing the whine, or its just the fluid level

If it's seriously out of nowhere I say fluid level.

If it didnt do it before, and now it does after the repair, then its got to be that crush collar. Double check the fluid but if it checks out, pull the pinion out and replace the collar.
