Default sun roof removal?

Well my problem is I have a sun roof that started to leak water into the head liner when washing or when it rained. Now getting tired of this problem I want to remove it. This sun roof is after market and it was installed before I purchased the car. Ive checked into a lot of different ways to replace the sun roof like, with a piece of metal that I spot wielded into the hole and cleaning it up with bondo, but felt that should be the last resort. Question is, is there a panel that goes over the entire roof or is the best way to get a another 96-98 roof from a donor GT. Or is there a better way completely. Im hoping some one can help me on this matter. Thanks...

I believe things like roofs are pre-welded pieces onto the frame. You won't be able to get a donor roof easily like a front quarter panel or a bumper. So you may just need to weld in a piece of metal.

what about just fixing the sunroof? I know that sounds like a smartass idea but if you replaced the gaskets and made sure it had a good seal then you would be alright would you not?

This would probably be the easiest (and cheapest) thing to do in the long run, as long as the company that did the install originally did quality work. If you have the information on who installed it, give them a call and see what they can do.

I wish the place was still in business then I could get all new seals. But, it closed down a few years ago. I checked into even changing it over to a fox body sun roof but they are smaller and the seals are not the same. Some times costom is more of a problem. Does anyone know where to get a cardboard insert for the head liner? Mine is a little shot and can't seem to find one.

Look in the yellow pages or search Google for a sun roof installer in your area, bring the car to them and let 'em take a look at it--they will likely have a solution...
