Default speedometer???

ok guys, got a 97 gt with the 5 speed. Last nite doing about 40 when the speedometer needle suddenly ran all the way around to the peg and stayed there. Any ideas why and how to fix it?

Do you have aftermarket gears in the rear?

If so, how did you correct the speedometer reading?

Sometimes that means your battery is about to eat it.

Did it return back to normal operation after you shut it off and restarted it?

Note:
CLIFFY will probably chime in before long with a good response to your issue... he is the resource for all things technical/diagnostic on these cars.
